Rachel Coleman, MD

Dr. Rachel Coleman is a board certified pediatrician with 20 years of experience helping families on the journey of parenthood. Her educational journey started with earning her bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from Milligan College in 2000. She pursued her passion for medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine, graduating in 2004. Following this, she embarked on her pediatric residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, MA, which she completed in June 2007. She stayed on as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics from September 2007 until December 2011

The pull of family and friends as well as the desire to escape the brutal winters of Massachusetts prompted her return to Gainesville with her family in 2012, where she continued her career in Academic medicine at the University of Florida. During that time she received multiple awards for Excellence in teaching and patient care. She exited her role of Clinical Associate Professor to establish Honeybee Pediatrics in the summer of 2022.

Dr. Coleman has built an award winning and thriving practice committed to serving the community with compassion, excellence, and a focus on healthy lifestyle changes. This led her to pursue Lifestyle Medicine certification, and she will complete that certification in the fall of 2024. Her work in this area led to connections with Dr. Byun, Dr. Yeung, and Dr. Ihnatsenka. As their discussions continued, a desire to serve the community more broadly led to the formation of Empower Lifestyle Medicine in 2024. Through this practice, they are excited to help patients live a life of meaning and purpose, avoid medications and surgery, and improve their Healthspan.

Dr. Coleman is married with three children ages 9 to 17, understanding firsthand the joys and challenges of family life. In her free time she loves to read on a cozy couch with nobody talking to her (any other Enneagram 9s out there?), move her body every day so she doesn’t lose her sanity, and spend time with friends and family. Her personal experience fuels her dedication to supporting parents and nurturing the health and happiness of every child under her care. Dr. Coleman's mission is not just to treat illness but to foster a thriving community where families flourish.
